Summary
:
The Senior Associate will assist in the creation of programs, products, and services for nationwide implementation to mobilize communities around disaster preparedness, response, and recovery, and work with other program development units to ensure that those programs capture the tools and processes needed to mobilize the community.
Specific functions of this position include providing research and program development support through writing of concept papers, analysis of data (both qualitative and quantatitive), and production of program elements, products and tools. The Program Associate will also provide techincal assistance to regions on how to utizlie the tools and guideance for their local communities.
In addition, the Program Associate will support the ongoing implementation of a grant building a regional resilience network in the Gulf Coast.
Duties include
:
Assist in the creation of a strategy and program elements needed to mobilize the community around disaster preparedness, response and recovery in communities nationwide.
Determine effective and efficient solutions to incorporate mobilization strategy and tactics in preparedness, response, and recovery efforts throughout the American Red Cross.
Identify approaches to increase the number and proportion of local volunteers engaged in preparedness, response, and recovery year over year.
Collaborate with other disaster cycle functions inside and outside the organization to develop a comprehensive approach to community mobilization around disaster.
Review the literature, identify best practices to support mobilize strategy.
Support large-scale relief operations activities when required.
Convene and facilitate meetings for consensus building, coordination, joint planning and implementation of preparedness activities.
Liaison between community actors; establish and maintain effective working relationships with community agencies, schools, businesses and general public.
Qualifications:
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required.
5-7 years related experience.
Extensive experience in working at the local community level.
Experience planning and implementing community and or regional projects.
Capacity to innovate and integrate new strategies in regional context.
Ability to work with diverse opinions and reach consensus.
Understanding of disaster cycle preferred.
Knowledge of local area a plus.
Ability to follow prescribed procedures.
Knowledge of Red Cross tools and services preferred.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proficient in use of technology.
Ability to be flexible and multi-task.
Good organizational skills are a must.
Good team player.
Must possess cultural sensitivity.
Location : Washington, DC
Travel : Regular travel across the region; several out of town trips possible
Time : 40 hours per week

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
