This position is located in the U.S. International Trade Commission, Office of the Administrative Law Judges (OALJ). This office is responsible for hearing and deciding cases instituted by the Commission under Section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930, in accordance with the provisions of the Administrative Procedure Act.
Our ideal candidate will have experience with patent litigation or litigation under Section 337.

The Legal Assistant provides comprehensive support services to the Administrative Law Judge and staff. As a Legal Assistant, you will have a variety of responsibilities, including issuing initial orders in cases brought under section 337; assisting in scheduling matters for hearing; contacting officials within and outside the ITC on behalf of the ALJ; proofreading pleadings; filing and serving pleadings electronically and manually; maintaining records/case files in accordance with agency directives; conducting searches for information using a variety of sources, including legal databases; preparing public versions of confidential orders and initial determinations; arranging travel and obtaining reimbursement for qualifying expenses; and maintaining time and attendance records for assigned staff.

To qualify at the GS-08 level, you must have one-year of specialized experience obtained in the federal or private sector that is equivalent to the GS-07 level. Your specialized experience must demonstrate: assisting with reviewing and processing a variety of legal documentation in accordance with applicable rules and regulations; communicating with individuals in immediate organization in order to provide guidance about litigation activities, hearings process, motion filings, or other related programs; and using a computer to prepare correspondence and experience using software for data input, queries, reports, or case tracking.
To qualify at the GS-09 level, you must have one-year of specialized experience obtained in the federal or private sector that is equivalent to the GS-08 level. Your specialized experience must demonstrate: reviewing and processing a variety of legal documentation in accordance with applicable rules & regulations; performing basic legal research to assist higher-ranking employees drafting orders, motion, and other court documents; communicating with internal and external customers in order to provide guidance about litigation activities, hearings process, motion filings, or other related programs; using a computer to prepare correspondence and experience using software for data input, queries, reports, or case tracking.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
