The Administrative Office (AO), an agency of the Judicial branch of the Federal government, is committed to serving and supporting the Federal court system of the United States. The AO provides a broad range of legislative, legal, financial, technology, management, administrative and program support services to the Federal courts.
OPPORTUNITY: The AO Fair Employment Practices Office, is seeking applicants for a paid Student Internship. The opportunity is intended to provide valuable work experience and better prepare students interested in a public service or legal career. The AO is presently looking for students with backgrounds and/or demonstrated interest in the following areas: civil rights, human resources, public affairs, law, business administration (marketing, budget & finance, accounting, etc.), and information technology. The student will have an opportunity to improve his or her writing, research, organizational, analytical, logical, creative, multi-tasking, and customer-service skills. Additionally, student interns are provided with networking opportunities with fellow interns, AO employees, judiciary employees, and other government employers. Past intern events have included:
1. A Supreme Court tour and luncheon with AO student interns and the Program Manager for Special Recruitment.
2. A roundtable luncheon with a senior attorney to explore future government employment opportunities.
3. A summer intern reception, hosted by the Partnership for Public Service, and job fair, where interns explored employment opportunities in the public sector.
4. Training opportunities designed to assist interns in skill development.

The selected paid student intern will perform a variety of administrative support duties with in the Fair Employment Practices Office (FEPO such as:
1. Conducting research and assisting with special projects and day-to-day operations;
2. Preparing and analyzing reports;
3. Drafting memoranda and correspondences;
4. Proofreading, editing, and assisting with document revision;
5. Maintaining case files;
6. Assisting with Judiciary committee or subcommittee liaison matters;
7. Providing ideas and supporting web contents;
8. Performing general office tasks, such as answering phones, copying, scanning, and filing;
9. Assisting with research, planning and development of any and all training provided by OFEP and identifying new resource materials for OFEP library;
10. Assisting in designing and preparing presentation and outreach materials for the Diversity Recruitment and Outreach program and Judicial Orientations. This includes, assisting with logistics of preparing, packing and shipping resources;
11. Applying creative approaches to update court Heritage Celebration materials in hard copy and on the judiciary intranet by proofing, editing, testing and re-designing the Sourcebook materials for African American Heritage Celebration, Women's History Celebration, Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Celebration, Hispanic American Heritage Celebration and Native American Heritage Celebration. IV. Assist in the development of the AO Ethnic Heritage Celebration programs;
12. Assisting in managing the FEP case management system;
13. Providing administrative support in the following areas: responding/directing telephone calls and visitors, organizing mail, scheduling, filing, scanning, preparing travel authorizations and vouchers, and drafting/reviewing correspondence; and
14. Performing other duties as assigned.
The selectee must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a degree-seeking student, taking at least a half-time academic or technical course load in an accredited 4 year program, or in a post-secondary level program. Students must also be in good academic standing, maintaining a G.P.A of 3.0 or higher.

Work well in a team environment.
Have very strong organization and communication skills, and be detailed oriented.
Have a working knowledge of computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, or WordPerfect.
Have excellent writing, reading and interpersonal skills, and be able to organize a variety of assignments simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
Undertake responsiblity with demonstrated commitment to ethical standards.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
