This position is located in Accounting Operations Division, Office of the Deputy CFO - Agency Controller, Office of the Chief Financial Officer, Washington, DC.
Selectee will work Shift 1 and have a tour of duty of 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
Accountants perform a variety of professional accounting functions which involves the development, preparation, and review of financial estimates and reports and other special analysis regarding the various operations of the GPO. The employee of the position considers the adequacy of financial accounting and control systems for revenues and expenses involving a wide variety of conditions. Decisions frequently involve a variety of unrelated factors and changing conditions such as availability and reliability of accounting data and management controls.

As a professional Accountant, the employee uses professional knowledge of accounting and basic, general knowledge of government and business practices to:
Develop skill using conventional procedures and practices to prepare summaries of financial transactions and journal entries to update the automated general ledger.
Identify problems and provide recommendations pertaining to common administrative support and business accounting systems for payroll, payables, purchases, fixed assets, maintenance, receivables, and sales.
Analyze and interpret monthly financial results and identify if established accounting procedures are being followed.
Support higher-level Accountants plan, schedule, observe, and conduct physical inventories.
Prepare financial estimates and forecasts, special-purpose financial reports as well as Treasury and other regulatory reports for revolving funds and appropriations. Prepares portions of the financial statements, related tables and explanatory footnotes for inclusion in The Annual Report of the Public Printer.
Assist in the implementation of accounting procedural changes.
Develop ad-hoc reports as requested by management.
Conduct vulnerability assessments and internal control reviews of areas within the Office of the Chief Financial Officer.
Conduct special studies and other analysis as directed.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
To qualify for this position, you must meet the following Basic Requirements:
A. A degree from an accredited college or university in accounting; or in a related field of study such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 semester hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law.

B. At least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge. _Your background must also include at least one of the following:_

1. Twenty-four semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality. This can include up to 6 hours of business law; _or_
2. A certificate as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), obtained through written examination; _or_
3. Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in accounting or auditing (e.g., 15 semester hours), but that does not fully satisfy the 24 semester hour requirement of paragraph A, __ provided that:__ _a)_ you successfully worked at the full performance level in accounting, auditing or a related field (e.g., valuation engineering or financial institution examining); _AND b)_ a panel of at least two higher level professional accountants or auditors has determined that you demonstrated a good knowledge of accounting and of related and underlying fields that equals in breadth, depth, currency, and level of advancement that which is normally associated with successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in paragraph A; _AND c)_ except for literal nonconformance to the requirement of 24 semester hours in accounting, your education, training, and experience fully meet the specified requirements.
_In addition to the Basic Requirements listed above,_ applicants must possess one year of specialized experience at the PG-07 (or equivalent) level or higher. Specialized experience includes: tracking operations that are stable and solving operational problems; studying existing reports accounts, and instructions to streamline operations or to provide more meaningful financial information; and advising managers on transactions that differ from the norm. _OR_
Applicants must have completed 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree; _OR _ have a master's or equivalent graduate degree directly related to this position; _OR_ Applicants must have a combination of specialized experience and directly related education that equals at least 100% of the total requirement.
TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS : Merit Promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year of successful performance in work related to the position at the PG-7 or equivalent grade level of federal service is required to qualify for the PG-9 level. Federal employees competing under merit promotion procedures must submit a copy of their most recent performance appraisal to be considered.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
