This position is being filled under the Pathways Recent Graduate Program that affords developmental experiences in the Federal Government intended to promote possible careers in the civil service to individuals who have recently graduated from qualifying educational institutions or programs.
The Recent Graduate Program lasts for 1 year. Participants who successfully complete the Recent Graduate Program may be eligible for conversion to a permanent appointment or a term (1-4 years in duration) appointment without further competition.

This position is located in the Park Museum Management Program, Cultural Resources, Partnerships, and Science Directorate, National Park Service (NPS). Program functions include developing and coordinating Service-wide policies, standards, and procedures for managing museum collections, including natural history, cultural, archival and manuscript materials. Other functions include exercising oversight and providing staff advice, technical assistance, and professional development pertaining to NPS collections acquisition, documentation, preservation, protection, access, use, and disposal. Work of the position centers on managing museum collections and collections management databases; developing policy, procedures, and programs for NPS collections information management; providing Department-wide training and technical assistance on the use of the Department of the Interior's Collections Management System (ICMS); and providing on-site management of the Washington Office art collection.

SPECIALIZED
Experience:
Have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples of specialized experience providing direction over museum collections and carrying out responsibilities in the four museum functions collections, exhibits, research, and education. Experience may include collections management, registration, cataloging, research, preservation, restoration, or conservation of collections of museum material, or other experience related to this position.
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR SPECIALIZED
Experience:
Have at least two years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree with fields of study such as museum studies, art, history, scientific subjects, or other courses related to this position.
AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF QUALIFYING EDUCATION AND
Experience:
Have an equivalent combination of such education and experience. For example, I have six months of the specialized experience (50% of the experience requirement), and 27 semester hour or 41 quarter hours of related graduate level college study in an accredited institution (50% of the qualifying education).

What are the Eligibility Requirements? In order to be eligible for an appointment under the Pathways Recent Graduate Program you must meet the following requirements:
You must be a recent graduate who has completed, within the previous two years, an associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution such as an accredited technical or vocational school; a 2- or 4-year college or university; a graduate or professional school (e.g., law school, medical school); or a post-secondary home school curriculum. Note: Certificate program is defined as post-secondary education in a qualifying educational institution equal to at least one academic year of full-time study that's part of an accredited college-level, technical, trade, vocational, or business school curriculum.
Veterans unable to apply within two years of receiving their degree due to military service obligation shall have a 2-year period of eligibility to apply that begins from the date of release or discharge from active duty; however, the veteran's eligibility period cannot extend beyond 6 years from the date of graduation.
Veterans Preference applies to selection for positions in the Pathways Programs.

The Assessment Questionnaire is designed to measure your ability in the following competencies needed to successfully perform on the job:
KSA-1. Functional knowledge of a variety of disciplines represented in museum collections in order to plan, design, and install artifacts and specimens in museum exhibits using techniques that ensure long term preservation and protection.
KSA-2. Knowledge of the principles of artistic design, exhibit design software, digital imaging equipment, and computers to recommend designs and concepts for museum exhibits, presentation materials, and illustrations that convey desired ideas and concepts to targeted audiences.
KSA-3. Knowledge of automated museum collections management systems and skill in using museum collections management software.
KSA-4. Knowledge of museum collections management data collection and analysis methods, and skill in the operation of an automated collections management system.
KSA-5. Knowledge of the principles and techniques of written, oral, and visual communication.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
