Medical Director
Open Rank WOT - Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, Medical Director of Shared ServicesThe Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, University of Washington, seeks a full-timelaboratory director to serve as the Medical Director of Shared Services.
This position provides clinical oversight of the shared services units responsible for pre-analytical and post-analytical laboratory medicine and pathology processes, which include specimen processing, phlebotomy, client support services, logistics, and the clinical administrative support team, working closely with administrative leadership and management to ensure these services provide high quality and efficient service to other operational units.
In addition to the Medical Director of Shared Services responsibilities, applicants will be expected to provide service under one or more departmental divisions or sections, including (but not limited to) informatics, clinical chemistry, hematology, microbiology, genetics, or anatomic pathology subspecialties.
The position will report to the Vice Chair of Clinical Operations in their shared services oversight capacity, in addition to one or more division/section heads based on their additional service responsibilities.
Applicants are also expected to contribute research/scholarly work, ideally in the domains of innovative methods of laboratory service delivery, quality improvement, new test development, and/or the impact of laboratory medicine on health care and society.
Additional responsibilities include the teaching of residents, fellows, medical students and medical laboratory scientist program undergraduates, especially in the domains of pre-analytics, laboratory management, and outreach.
This appointment may be at the rank of Assistant, Associate or full Professor, without tenure due to reasons of funding.
Assistant Professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30).
Associate and Full Professors WOT hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30).
Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.
This position remains open until filled with an anticipated start date of January1, 2023, but is flexible.
