6K a year Position Summary The Cancer Center Social Worker is responsible for providing psychosocial and clinical support services to Cancer Center patients and their families primarily in the outpatient setting.
The Social Worker assesses patients from a culturally and ethnically diverse population and provides outpatient clinical intervention while establishing plans for effective management of identified needs.
The Social Worker acts as an advocate for patients and provides supportive, short-term counseling, crisis intervention, and care management to individuals and/or their families impacted by cancer.
Essential Duties and
Responsibilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Conducts initial and ongoing comprehensive psychosocial assessments in order to address the clinical needs of Cancer Center patients and their family members.
Provide individual, couple, and family therapy.
Clinical services include individual, couple, and family therapies with psychiatric outpatient assessments.
Development of a care plan with patient and family based on mutually agreed-upon goals to enhance, maintain and promote optimal psychosocial functioning throughout cancer treatment and its outcome.
Collaboration with other professional disciplines in the planning and provision of timely and efficient clinical services to cancer patients and their families.
Refer patients and/or family members to community resources to assist in recovery from mental or physical illness and to provide access to services such as financial assistance, legal aid, housing, job placement, or education.
Develops, implements and facilitates various psycho-educational support groups and programs for Cancer Center patients and/or their families.
Participates actively in the Survivorship Clinic by informing patients of the clinic, providing short-term therapy to clinic patients when needed, and performing IRB-approved research.
Provides supervision and educational activities of graduate-level 2nd year social work and art therapy student interns and volunteers as needed Maintain comprehensive, timely, and accurate documentation of patient assessments and interventions in the electronic health record.
Collaboration with other disciplines and staff in the areas of psychosocial clinical services, patient-and family-centered care, research, and education.
Advocate for quality patient care and optimal patient care systems to advance health equity, improve quality, and reduce health disparities.
Qualifications Education Masters Degree in Social Work.
OSW-C preferred or obtained within 12 months of hire.
Licensure A current social work license in the District of Columbia.
Experience Minimum of 2 years of medical social work experience, preferably in oncology.
