About the Team:
We are looking for a competition public policy subject matter expert with significant experience to join the TikTok public policy team responsible for North and South America.
You will focus on helping external stakeholders understand the company's positions on antitrust and ecommerce aspects of the platform and serve as a subject matter expert for the Americas public policy team, based in Washington, DC.
We are looking for a professional with expertise in competition policy to support the public policy subject matter expert team made up of seasoned tech policy leaders from an array of disciplines.
The team provides strategic advice to the business and anticipates policy trends and impacts.
We also proactively drive thought leadership by seeking out new ideas to help the company lead the industry.
You will focus on helping policymakers and external stakeholders understand TikTok's e-commerce business, and serve as a subject matter expert for the broader Americas public policy team, based in Washington, DC.
What you will do:
- Proactively identify and address emerging and significant antitrust or competition issues with the potential to impact e-commerce, as well as regulatory or legislative developments in the region, that could impact the company and its products.
Analyze and evaluate proposed legislation or regulations relating to competition and related ecommerce issues.
Work with internal and external counsel and government affairs experts to stay ahead of and on top of evolving regulations, legislation, and other legal requirements across the Americas.
- Advise cross-functional legal and product colleagues on competition policy trends in the Americas, including potential regulation or legislation relating to online commerce.
- Provide internal cross-functional public policy advice, including identifying potential risks and opportunities and strategizing solutions for new policies and products.
- Advise the Americas public policy team on a broad range of e-commerce, monetization strategy, and policy issues associated with antitrust and competition issues.
- Ensure that Americas public policy external communications are accurate and comprehensible to a general audience.
This requires the ability to precisely translate and clearly communicate complex topics into more relatable explanations.
- Analyze and explain TikTok's e-commerce services to external audiences while setting and maintaining a high ethical standard.
- Represent TikTok to elected officials and government agencies engaged in e-commerce policy making on issues of importance to our company and the people who use the service.
- Maintain and develop a strong network of third-party public interest groups, industry associations and academics engaged in technology policy issues.
Represent TikTok at high tech industry gatherings, trade associations and coalition meetings.
Qualifications- 8
years dedicated professional experience with a focus on antitrust and e-commerce.
- Deep understanding of the key public policy issues that impact antitrust and e-commerce services.
- Experience working across multiple functions, influencing, and collaborating with others to successfully implement programs and initiatives; history of successful cross-functional team and leadership collaboration.
- Strong research and analysis abilities:
the individual will need to take complex situations and effectively communicate their implications for the company, as well as defend priorities for the public policy function.
- Outstanding judgment, persuasive and advocacy skills, creativity, and the ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, and often uncertain environment.
A problem-solver experienced at remaining focused and calm when problems come your way.
- Experience analyzing and shaping competition public policy at a tech company, trade association, law firm, think tank, or nonprofit.
- Ability to work collaboratively on finding practical, implementable tools and operational solutions.
- Self-motivated; can identify and complete work without being instructed.
- Experience partnering with global stakeholders.
- Strong network of experts, academics and NGOs, able to help direct TikTok regarding new trends and research in the area of competition- Demonstrated comfort with public speaking.
