Position Description
The needed individual will review the outstanding requests for judicial assistance to assess whether the request complies with treaty requirements, where applicable, and can be executed under
united states
practices and procedures. This requires, among other things, interpreting the foreign court's order, and assessing whether the requested evidence relates to a civil or commercial matter. Where the request complies with treaty and can be executed, the individual will be responsible for drafting a referral letter to the appropriate Office of the United States Attorney (USAO). Where the request does not comply with the applicable treaty and/or where the request cannot otherwise be executed, the individual will be responsible for drafting a letter to the requesting authority explaining the reasons for rejecting the request. From time to time, the individual may be required to obtain status updates from USAOs to provide to foreign officials and to otherwise respond to telephonic and electronic inquiries from USAOs, foreign litigants, and foreign officials. Once the USAO obtains the requested evidence, the individual may be required to transmit the collected evidence to the foreign official. Consequently, the position requires regular communication with the USAOs, the Department of State, and foreign embassies and officials.
The individual will be required to perform associated administrative tasks, such as copying requests and correspondence, creating electronic copies of requests and correspondence, and updating the office database used to track requests. From time to time, the individual may be required to prepare reports on the progress with the backlog.

## Qualifications
_Minimum Qualifications_
As required by the needs of the office, the incumbent's time will be divided between the office's responsibilities to facilitate international judicial assistance, and responsibilities.
Knowledge of the principles, concepts, and methods of legal and factual research and analysis, international currency exchange; international treaties and the requirements of customary international law with regard to international judicial assistance requests sufficient to perform assignments which are typically covered by established treaties and
protocols. Required knowledge includes the basic principals of the operation of a budget, maintaining financial accounts recording authorized payments frequently involving foreign currencies that must be converted, and the ability to generate accurate accounting reports of expenditures, payments and obligations. Must have knowledge of the general areas of law under which component and legal activities are carried out, as well as the applicable policies, precedents, and administrative procedures. Uses specialized, complicated techniques to complete assignments, such as comparing options or identifying conflicts. Develops, examines, adjusts, reconsiders, or authorizes settlements.
Must be a US Citizen and able to obtain a security clearance.

Law Degree or extensive paralegal experience.
