Project Description
FANTA works to improve nutrition and food security policies, strategies, and programs through technical support to the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and its partners. Focus areas include maternal and child health and nutrition in development and emergency contexts, HIV and other infectious diseases, and food security and livelihood strengthening. FANTA develops and adapts approaches to support the design and implementation of field programs, while building on field experience to improve and expand the evidence base, methods, and global standards for nutrition and food security programming. The project, managed by FHI 360 and funded by USAID, is a 5-year cooperative agreement.
Position Descri ption
Under the direction of the Communications Manager, and working with other staff in the communications unit, the Communications Associate will provide communications and administrative support to FANTA primarily in the areas of disseminating and archiving project information and maintaining the web and communications work tracking systems.
Major Duties/Responsibilities
Performs and provides logistical support duties for communications team members.
Responds to daily internal and external information requests and requests for publications. Maintains publications and supply inventory, and provide printing, copying, and binding support. Prepares documents and reports and compiles and organizes archives.
Coordinates meetings as requested.
Answers Communications Helpdesk requests.
Manages the IR2 weekly reporting process. Works with project staff to identify and minimize bottlenecks.
Maintains communications work tracking system and communicates with requestors in cases where work was submitted with inadequate information.
Serves as main communications team resource for preparing 508-compliant publications and submitting them to USAID's Development Exchange Clearinghouse (DEC).
Compiles periodic web and Twitter statistics and disseminates appropriately.
Provides publications support through formatting and layout work, as requested.
Disseminates project information and new publications to appropriate audiences, and submits deliverables to appropriate databases.
Provides support to other project staff members on other duties that may arise, and works with communication team colleagues to help meet goals and deadlines in the areas of website maintenance, meeting notes, formatting, producing event and presentation materials, and other tasks as needed.
Bachelor's required or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Requires 1-2 year(s) of relevant experience required.
Database, website, desktop publishing, and page layout experience preferred.
Experience working in international development preferred.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to establish priorities, meet deadlines, and manage a variety of tasks with accuracy
Good communication skills; English fluency.
Ability to initiate and implement activities with minimal oversight and supervision.
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain comprehensive filing systems, operate general office equipment, compose routine correspondence, organize complex documents.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word.
Oral and written proficiency in French or Spanish desirable.
