The NASA Office of Inspector General (OIG) conducts audits, reviews, and investigations of NASA programs and operations to prevent and detect fraud, waste, abuse, and mismanagement and to assist NASA management in promoting economy, efficiency, and effectiveness. The OIG consists of approximately 200 auditors, analysts, specialists, investigators, attorneys, and support staff at NASA Headquarters in Washington DC, and NASA Centers throughout the U.S.
The Office of Audits (OA) conducts independent, objective audits, reviews, and other examinations of NASA and NASA contractor programs and projects to improve NASA operations. The OA provides a broad range of professional audit and advisory services, performs focused reviews of specific management issues, comments on NASA policies, and is responsible for oversight of NASA audits performed under contract or by other Federal agencies. The OA helps NASA accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of NASA operations and by deterring fraud, crime, waste, and abuse. This is a drug-testing designated position Occasional travel may be required A one-year probationary period may be required Successful completion of a security investigation will be required Permanent Full Time Serves on a team that is responsible for participating and/or conducting management technical audits and reviews, particularly those with wide or significant effect upon the promotion of NASA and NASA OIG Information Technology (IT) services and initiatives. Plans, develops, and conducts audit programs of technical and project management activities including IT security and other initiatives. Prepares written reports to clearly articulate audit findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
Responsible for providing input for short and long-term planning activities within the IT Directorate involving evaluation of NASA IT activities and systems. Consults closely with other NASA OIG staff involved in evaluating and investigating information technology security processes and incidents.
Serves as a technical point of contact for a wide variety of information technology systems audits requiring integrated analysis of a number of different information systems areas.
Conducts reviews of NASA IT systems to identify and target system or security weaknesses. Recommends/develops methods and statistical and mathematical models to identify abnormalities and system vulnerabilities.
Participates in the establishment of overall IT audit priorities for NASA OIG. Reviews objectives of various audits with team leaders before the start of assignments. Counsels on techniques to be used. Makes recommendations on auditing matters complicated by sensitive issues, undefined audit boundaries, and scarcity of information on potential findings.
Works on and with teams in specialty areas such as quality assurance reviews and studies of significant scope. Provides technical advice to auditors in the continuing study, revision, improvement, or adjustment of the auditing of IT systems at NASA.

You qualify at the GS-09 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level performing duties such as:
Knowledge of, and skill in applying basic IT security principles, methods, and practices to ensure the application of appropriate IT security measures and evaluate established IT security methods and procedures to prepare recommendations for changes in methods and practices. Documents work performed using proper grammar, punctuation and spelling to describe the purpose, nature, timing, extent and results of the work performed; conducts research to identify and retrieve data.
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR SPECIALIZED
Experience: GS-09:
A masters or equivalent degree, or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. In order to be creditable, education must be related to the position being filled with a major study of computer science, information science, information systems management, mathematics, statistics, operations research, or engineering, or course work that required the development or adaptation of computer programs and systems and provided knowledge equivalent to a major in the computer field.
You qualify at the GS-11 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level performing duties such as:
Working knowledge of, and skill in applying IT security principles, methods, and practices to ensure the application of appropriate IT security measures and evaluate established IT security methods and procedures to prepare recommendations for changes in methods and practices. Ability to provide technical advice on aspects of planning for and conducting activities related to IT security and other IT initiatives. assists in obtaining and analyzing data from a variety of sources.
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR SPECIALIZED
Experience: GS-11:
A Ph.D. or equivalent, or 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. In order to be creditable, education must be related to the position being filled with a major study of computer science, information science, information systems management, mathematics, statistics, operations research, or engineering, or course work that required the development or adaptation of computer programs and systems and provided knowledge equivalent to a major in the computer field.
In addition to the specialized experience described above, you must have IT-related experience in each of the following four competencies listed below which must be supported by the information contained in your resume.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
