This vacancy is for a Mathematical Statistician (Research) position in the Center for Statistical Research and Methodology located at the U.S. Census Bureau Headquarters in Suitland, Maryland.
A one year probationary period may be required.
Relocation expenses may be paid.
This is a supervisory position. If not already completed, the selectee will need to serve a one-year supervisory probationary period.

The incumbent of this position serves as Leader for one of the Research Groups of the Center for Statistical Research and Methodology (CRSM). These groups currently have mathematical statisticians with expertise in sampling and estimation, statistical modeling and simulations, and experimental design. The researchers in these groups (as well as others in the center) develop, conduct, and report programs of research for the improvement of Census Bureau processes and products through the conception, refinement, and application of methods and techniques derived from the theory and practice of statistics, mathematics, and computing.
The individual selected for this position will:
Major Duty 1: Coordinate the work of researchers for research projects.
Major Duty 2: Consult and collaborate with others on statistical modeling, experimentation, simulation, survey sampling design, probability sampling, or estimation problems.
Major Duty 3: Conduct research on statistical modeling, experimentation, simulation, survey sampling design, probability sampling, and estimation problems mostly improving or introducing new methodology. Applicants must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Basic Entry Requirements for All Grade Levels:
A. Degree: You must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university OR a combination of education and experience equivalent to the completion of a bachelor's degree. Studies must have included at least 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, 12 of which must be in mathematics and 6 of which must be in statistics.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience -- at least 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, including at least 12 hours in mathematics and 6 hours in statistics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The quality of the combination of education and experience must be sufficient to demonstrate that the applicant possesses the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform work in the occupation, and is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study with a major in the appropriate field.
GRADE LEVEL REQUIREMENTS:

Experience:
You must have one year of specialized research experience equivalent to the grade 13 level with published research results in journal article(s). Specialized research experience is work experience providing expert advice and consultation; planning, development, evaluation and execution of assignments which were of broad scope and marked complexity, significance and importance; applying a comprehensive knowledge of Mathematical Statistical research being done by others in related fields; and consultation on a variety of problems involving the theory or application of Mathematical Statistical methods.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
