The Information Systems Department is seeking a Senior Linux Engineer to join the Technology Services team. This individual provides infrastructure management support for The Advisory Board Company's enterprise IT infrastructure across multiple data centers.
/Our current opportunity is based in Austin, TX or Washington, DC./
What You'll Be Doing:
- Server systems administration duties across enterprise-class information systems to include web servers, database servers, application servers, mail servers, etc.
- Configure and maintain servers, storage systems, and applications, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability and security
- Provide 24x7 support for critical production systems on an on-call rotation basis
- Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours
- Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes
- Participate in the software development process as necessary, providing operational infrastructure designs and recommendations as required
- Share domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross-training to peers
- Manage the day-to-day operations of our SaaS infrastructure
- Operate and configure infrastructure hardware including servers, switches, and firewalls
- Monitor and manage infrastructure utilization and performance
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, and network related issues, provide quick resolution to problems and participate in finding root causes of issues and may work on action items to prevent future occurrences
- Communicate and coordinate infrastructure maintenance schedule and downtime to users
- Help implement infrastructure solutions that meet or exceed our internal and external customers' SLAs and expectations
Must Haves:
- 5
years professional experience in large scale enterprise and/or hosting environment
- Experience with Microsoft Server technologies, specifically Windows Server 2008 R2, Active Directory, and IIS 7.5
- Experience supporting Linux web and database servers; SUSE/Ubuntu/CentOS, Apache/Tomcat, and PostgreSQL/MySQL
- Demonstrated working knowledge of task automation using standard IT scripting languages (Perl, Python, shell, PowerShell, Task Scheduler, cron, etc.) on both Linux as well as Windows
- Experience in a 24x7x365 data center
- Knowledge of storage technologies including SAN, NAS, iSCSI,
- Understanding of storage basic concepts RAID levels, LUN management, etc.
- Experience working in a highly virtualized environment using VMWare(preferred), Hyper-V, Xen, etc.
- Experience working with classified information/data such as HIPAA, financial data, SOX
- Experience with monitoring systems and monitoring best practices

- Bachelor's Degree

years professional experience in distributed enterprise-class IT systems
- Experience configuring routers, switches, and firewalls, specifically Dell, HP, and Cisco
- Experience with BIGIP F5 Load Balancers, Citrix Netscaler, Cisco ACE
- MCSA, MCSE, VCP, CCNA, and ITIL certification
- Experience with higher availability systems, including clusters and load balancing techniques
- Experience administering database environments including SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, and MySQL
- Expert experience administering Microsoft Active Directory, Exchange, SharePoint
- Working knowledge of applied IT service management frameworks
- Knowledge of the application of HIPAA and HITECH requirements to the IT environment
- ITIL Foundations v3 certificate or higher
