Manager, Communication - Gaithersburg, MD

The Communications Manager will fulfill the vision and goals of GPC through creative and effective communication. This individual will serve as a channel manager to ensure that all GPC communications are organized and sent in a timely manner through the most appropriate communication tools. The position will include responsibility for coordination of print collateral, as well as electronic communications including website development and social media. Attending regular staff and required committee meetings, and keeping well informed about the activities of GPC is required.

Relationships and Accountability
The Communications Manager is employed by Session (GPC's governing board) and reports and is accountable to the Head of Staff. The Communications Manager supports the goals and objectives of the Communications Committee. The Communications Manager also relates to: pastors, program staff, GPP&K staff, contractors, and church leaders.

Work Schedule
The 20-hour work week may be established by the employee and the Head of Staff to meet the needs of the church and in recognition that much of the work of this position may be done remotely.
The Communications Manager shall participate in bi-monthly staff meetings and monthly Communications Committee meetings.

Duties and Responsibilities
Communications:
Assist ministry committees with GPC-specific graphics, templates, and image standards to maintain consistent image and message and with publicizing their events.
Oversee the announcements portion of the weekly bulletin, slides used in worship, various print mailings, banners, website, and signage
Monitor the look and feel of all promotional materials representing GPC including use of logos and images
Edit, publish and distribute church newsletter (electronic and hardcopy)
Coordinate and send email blasts
Update, proofread and edit communication pieces as required
Ensure appropriate permits have been obtained for signage marketing special events
Facilitate the updating of social media platforms on Facebook and Twitter to engage daily with the community through the week
Work with the Communications Committee to distribute press releases to local media outlets as needed
Collaborate with other members of GPC Staff to ensure open communication
Website Management:
Lead all efforts related to the management of the GPC website including ensuring that GPC maintains and effective presence on the web
Responsible for content management, updating and upload to the website
Make seamless integration between information appearing in print and digital communications
Serves as relationship manager with website provider, ensuring appropriate levels of service and desired functionalities are received

Skills/Training
Bachelor's degree; minimum 5 years related experience preferred
Expert level written and verbal communication skills as well as proofreading and editing skills
Strong working knowledge and interest in social media technologies including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
Knowledge of brand development and the creative design
Attention to detail
Creative; able to think outside the box
Proficient in Mac OS, Adobe
Trained in GPC Safe Church policy
Must pass criminal background check
Knowledge of operating office equipment, copier equipment, including routine maintenanceEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
