Front End Patient Service Specialist - Medicine

Position
Summary:
To schedule and register Medical Faculty Associates (MFA) patients; to provide effective customer service during the reception, scheduling, registration and cash collection process.
Essential Duties and
Responsibilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.
Greet and direct patients for appointments, tests, referrals and information utilizing effective customer relation's skills
Schedule basic patient appointments, tests and procedures using a computerized scheduling system.
Performs pre-registration activities to gather demographic information, determines medical insurance coverage, and identifies patients with delinquent accounts, review appointments and registers patients into a computerized system.
Obtains documents and verifies patient demographic, financial and insurance information using a computerized scheduling system.
Scans copies of insurance cards, photo ID when necessary
Performs patient's appointment maintenance activities, as necessary, to assure patient appointment history is accurate.
Collect payment due at time of appointment as well as payments for unpaid balances, prepares receipts for all monies collected, and provides copies for reception area, billing office and the patient. Assure that self-pay patients and POS sign financial waivers at each visit.
Works with physicians and nursing staff to facilitate the patient encounter and departmentally assigned responsibilities.
Works collaboratively with members and staff across service lines.
Demonstrates an awareness and sensitivity towards patient/family rights.
Complies with departmental standards regarding training, professional development, communication, management of workload, and safety/emergency situations.
Cross trained to provide back up in other administrative areas within Medicine
Can assist management with report generation such as past pendings.
Other Related Duties:
Displays exemplary phone etiquette and focuses on 100% customer satisfaction.
Works collaboratively with members and staff across service lines.
Demonstrates an awareness and sensitivity towards patient/family rights.
Complies with departmental standards regarding training, professional development, communication, management of workload, and safety/emergency situations.
Cross-trained to provide back up in other administrative areas within Medicine.
Cross-trained to provide back up for the Refill Team with scanning referrals, entering refill requests and reviewing the conversant for messages
Requirements
Qualifications:

Education:
High school graduate or equivalent; knowledge of medical terminology. Two years of college is preferred.
Experience:
3-4 years working experience in a medical environment, such as a hospital, doctor's office, or ambulatory clinic. Must have call center experience as well as appointment scheduling experience with IDX. Experience utilizing a web-based computerized system or experience with windows is necessary.
Supervision Received:
Functional and administrative supervision is received from the Front End Supervisor.
