Department Overview
Public Finance sits within our Municipal Finance business where we combine investment banking; underwriting, sales, and trading; strategy and research; and derivative products into one unit dedicated to serving the municipal securities market. Our client base in Public Finance consists of state and local governments, healthcare systems, universities, and non-profit organizations nationwide.
Main duties and responsibilities
The Analyst will gain a broad understanding of the Public Finance investment banking business by providing cross-functional assistance to senior bankers. He or she will participate actively in municipal transactions and help source new opportunities. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Developing and evaluating debt profiles of various clients
Performing financial modeling and cash flow analyses to evaluate debt financing alternatives for municipal entities
Drafting internal and external correspondence and client presentation materials discussing financing strategies, market trends, Barclays' qualifications, etc.
Gathering, analyzing, and presenting financial data (e.g., government budgets and financial reports, economic/market data, financial forecasts, pricing results, etc.)
Researching legislative, market, or other developments relevant to our municipal clients
Participating in transaction execution, including managing deal logistics, running cash flows, preparing investor and rating agency presentations, and reviewing financing documents
Ensuring that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Barclays' Operational Risk Framework, and internal Barclays Policies and Standards
Basic Qualifications
Bachelors Degree
Minimum GPA of 3.2
Minimum 6 months experience prior experience in financial services, government, or related field
Preferred Qualifications
Strong quantitative abilities
Excellent written communication skills
Demonstrated interest in public policy
Familiarity with and understanding of financial markets
High level of energy, positive attitude, and intellectual curiosity
Solid verbal communication and interpersonal skills
Strategic thinker, solutions-oriented, adaptable
Ability to multitask while exhibiting a high level of attention to detail

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
