The Opportunity Supports Feeding America''s campaign strategy to increase USDA commodity purchases for distribution through The Emergency Food Assistance Program to Feeding America network members.
Utilizes a wide range of resources to ensure network members have the program knowledge to accept all TEFAP foods offered, including resources on policy analysis, TEFAP order tracking and data analysis, TEFAP distribution and operations best practices, and TEFAP outreach resources.
Provides support to the Managing Director, Ag and Nutrition Government Relations and other members of the Government Relations team in implementing a broad strategy to influence USDA support for commodity purchases and congressional support for federal nutrition programs and other Feeding America policy priorities.
Supports Feeding America network in developing and implementing outreach campaigns to influence USDA and other key stakeholders.
Helps position Feeding America and our network as the leading authority on hunger and hunger-related issues.
Responsibilities Collaborate with experts on the Government Relations (GR) team and across Feeding America to track USDA commodity distribution within the Feeding America network, including creating and managing a TEFAP data dashboard for Feeding America and the network that tracks food bank TEFAP as a % of overall food, specific TEFAP orders over time by commodity and state delivered to, TEFAP distribution costs by food bank, and help manage the estimates of future TEFAP pounds expected.
Develop and lead Feeding America''s education efforts on TEFAP and USDA foods with the network.
Coordinate the creation and dissemination to the network on TEFAP overall, but with particular emphasis on state distribution options, distribution best practices, partnership with ag industry, advocacy resources for USDA engagement, use of TEFAP with target populations like children and senior programs, and other issues as needed.
Work with the GR team and outside experts to conduct an analysis of ag commodity groups that have excess food and need USDA price support to better inform Feeding America''s USDA strategy.
With the GR team, help develop and execute a national and local campaign to increase ag industry support of USDA food purchases.
Work to strengthen Feeding America''s partnerships with the American Commodity Distribution Association and network participation in ACDA.
Present at ACDA conferences as appropriate.
Develop strategies and resources to help the network build, sustain and leverage effective partnerships with ag partners to support efforts to expand USDA food purchases.
Manage network grants as needed to support this work.
Collaborate with appropriate national office stakeholders to ensure the USDA campaign is integrated into supply chain and network engagement and capacity strategies.
Help collaborate with national partners to coordinate and leverage support for USDA food purchases.
Create advocacy materials for network members to use in campaigns.
Monitor federal and state policies and legislation affecting the Feeding America network and individuals facing food insecurity, in particular USDA food purchases.
Support GR team in advancing Feeding America policy priorities, including protecting and strengthening federal nutrition programs, encouraging tax policy to support charitable giving and the people we serve, and other priorities as identified.
Represent Feeding America to external audiences at policy and legislative briefings, hearings, forums, coalition meetings, conferences, and similar events as needed.
Support the GR team to educate policy makers, other organizations, and the general public about the Feeding America network, the problem of domestic hunger, policy issues impacting hunger, and solutions.
Respond to requests for information on hunger-related statistics, legislation, and public policy proposals.
Serve on national and interdepartmental committees and task forces as required and assigned Requirements 5
years'' experience in federal nutrition programs operations and implementation, advocacy, legislative campaigns and policy analysis is required with a strong focus on USDA food distribution programs.
BA/BS or relevant experience.
Advanced degree in government affairs, law, political science, public policy, sociology or social work strongly preferred Foundational Requirements Committed to organizational mission of ending hunger.

Required Technical Competencies and Experience Must have significant experience and expertise in the operations of federal commodity assistance programs at the local level, particularly in terms of food bank or other emergency feeding organization experience.
