UW-IT is the central IT organization for the University of Washington, providing critical technology support to all three campuses, UW medical centers and global research operations.
UW-IT collaborates with University partners to advance teaching, learning, innovation and discovery at the UW.
IT Infrastructure (ITI) within UW-IT provides system design, system management, software engineering and operational support for academic and administrative systems, the University's wired and wireless networks, telecommunications services, departmental IT and the UW-IT organization.
IT Operations within UW-IT ITI:
Operates and maintains the networks that support the UW and Network Programs 24x7x365.
This includes activating network and phone ports, installation and support of switches, wireless access points, optical networking gear, and routers.
We also provide telephony service support and fiber management.
We are the tier 2 network engineering team for the network operations service.
UW-IT has an outstanding opportunity for a Network Operations Project Manager.
The UW-IT Network Operations Project Manager utilizes a broad spectrum of skills including contemporary network technology and standards, especially Ethernet, TCP/IP and related protocols, complex problem solving, public relations and extensive project management skills.
S/he treats each project and service request as part of the organization's holistic needs rather than as isolated activities.
The IT Operations Project Manager assists the UW-IT Wired and Wireless Network Service Managers in providing decision-making capabilities and acts as a sounding board for ideas and approaches to IT solutions in support of the UW-IT networking environment.
S/he has experience in managing and coordinating vendors for delivery of goods and services.
The purpose of this position is to manage complex network projects including gathering hardware requirements, procurement, deployment and verification.
This will include coordinating staffing resources to ensure timely and successful implementation.
The incumbent will coordinate the efforts within UW-IT (eg Network Design & Architecture, Network Implementation, Network Operations Engineering, Business & Finance, etc.
) along with external clients, departments and vendors.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's Degree in computer science, communications engineering or related field.
Minimum of three years' experience in IT project management in a progressively more complex computing and networking environment.
Ability to manage a diverse range of activities in a highly visible and pressured environment, exercising independent judgment in resolving problems.
Demonstrated ability to manage large-scale technical projects within a team environment.
Facility/site experience for evaluating infrastructure, to include blueprints, MDF/IDF layouts, plant fiber, riser (fiber), station cabling, racks, wall mounting, power, space and cooling.
Proficient knowledge and experience with Layer2 switch standards, to include optical transceiver functionality, POE, and interconnectivity standards.
Functional knowledge of IEEE standards for TCP/IP networking, WiFi standards.
Understanding contemporary computing, networking and security technologies, VOIP, wireless, IT security strategies, Unified Communications and distributed systems architecture.
Ability to speak and write about technical issues for both a technical and non-technical audience.
Experience communicating with executive management during project charter development, priority setting, status and budget reporting.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
DESIRED:
JNCIA, CCNA or similar networking certification.
Experience working with networking at a large university, medical or similar large-scale enterprise network.
Demonstrated excellent written/oral communication skills, technical documentation skills, user liaison skills, and personal interaction abilities.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Must be able to lift 40 pounds overhead, this may include lifting above the head.
Must use proper lifting techniques.
Must be able to work in confined spaces such as ceilings or raised floors.
Must be willing to work in the University Medical Centers and meet minimum qualifications for working at such centers.
Must be able to operate a state vehicle on a daily basis, which requires a valid driver's license recognized by the State of Washington.
It may, on occasion be necessary to travel on weekend and up to one week at a time in the performance of assigned duties.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
