UW Medicine has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time Director of Governmental Relations.
Under the general guidance of the chief business officer, UW Medicine and vice president for medical affairs, University of Washington (CBO/VPMA), the Director of Government Relations (Director) is primarily responsible for the oversight of UW Medicine's government relations in support of UW Medicine's mission.
UW Medicine's programs include the delivery of advanced medical diagnostics and treatment services, education of medical students and graduate and postgraduate trainees, and maintenance of one of the largest and most advanced university-based basic and clinical research programs in the United States.
UW Medicine's programs also include the provision of medical care to underserved and disadvantaged persons and maintaining the economic vitality of UW Medicine's owned and managed health system.
The Director will have a key role in senior level support of all of the UW Medicine programs working closely with executive leaders of UW Medicine including the CEO, the vice presidents, the vice deans and others.
The individual will regularly coordinate activities with the director of legal and business matters, UW Medicine; the Chief of Staff, UW Medicine; the director, government financial relations and reimbursement; and with individuals in the University's Office of State Relations and the University's Office of Federal Relations.
The Director will direct government relations activities for UW Medicine.
This individual will serve as liaison with city, county, state and federal elected officials and other interest groups on UW Medicine issues affecting its clinical, research and education and training programs.
The individual will work in close coordination with the University's Office of State Relations and/or the University's Office of Federal Relations in developing or responding to state or federal legislation related to academic and health care issues.
The individual will lead projects to build legislative support for federal or state funding support for UW Medicine initiatives related to clinical, educational, or research activities.
This individual will have responsibility for selected internal and external communications related to city, county, state and federal policy.
Responsibilities include:
Develop and recommend strategies to educate and build support from government officials, interest groups, and the public on policy issues relevant to UW Medicine; Coordinate the implementation of these plans to assure effective communication with elected officials on behalf of UW Medicine; Represent UW Medicine at city, county, and state legislative meetings and hearings; Coordinate written responses on behalf of executive leaders to letters of inquiry, concern or comment regarding medical affairs issues, particularly those regarding government relations, environmental health and safety issues, biomedical research and other issues of interest to local and state legislative bodies; Conduct research and analysis, prepare summaries, presentations and talking points on an array of policy topics; Support advancing key initiatives that support UW Medicine's mission with internal and external audiences including state and federal professional associations such as Washington State Medical Association, Washington State Hospital Association, Association of American Medical Colleges and others; Collaborate with and coordinate communication with, among and from members of the senior leadership of UW Medicine during the state legislative session, tracking relevant legislation; Work closely with senior leadership to plan, oversee, implement, and evaluate internal and external government relations communication; Serve on senior executive level committees of UW Medicine as assigned; Track, monitor and follow the progress of key projects, strategic planning activities and specific action items that emanate from the senior leadership of UW Medicine; Assume a key staffing, oversight, and/or planning role as requested for major projects, initiatives, and activities involving government relations and federal and state policy matters; Coordinate selected projects requiring federal or state funding.
The individual will be responsible for developing and implementing plans to obtain needed programmatic legislative support.
To lead these activities, the individual in this position will need to conduct research, develop position statements, and assemble support internally and externally for implementation of plans; Work closely with selected UW Medicine leaders to plan, oversee, implement, and evaluate selected major clinical, research, and educational initiatives requiring federal or state support; Assume a key staffing or planning role as requested by the executive leaders for major projects, initiatives and activities; Prepare selected internal and external communications; Serve as the representative of executive leaders for key interactions with major offices within UW Medicine and with central administration of the University of Washington related to federal and state relations; and Work on special projects as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS BA in political science, sociology, communications or related fields is required.
An advanced degree in public policy or a related field is desirable.
Eight to ten years' experience in public policy, community relations, governmental relations.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated experience in working effectively with state, local and community groups, preferably as a representative of a large public institution.
Knowledge of and strong commitment to health care and biomedical research activities is essential.
Higher education experience beneficial, but not required.
Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum requirements.
DESIRED REQUIREMENTS An advanced degree in public policy or a related field is desirable.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
