Duties Help Duties Summary This position is located in the Plumbing Shop, Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) Branch, Operations and Maintenance Division of the John F.
Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
The incumbent will be responsible for performing plumbing, pipefitting and other duties on complex plumbing systems.
This position requires a fixed work schedule TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY; 2:
30 pm until 11:
00 pm; flexible work schedules will not be authorized.
Learn more about this agency Responsibilities Working from blueprints, lay-out sketches and specifications, sets up system routes and locates and marks spots for openings through which pipes are to pass or in which equipment will be installed.
Serves as a journeyman Plumber/Pipefitter responsible for the installation, operation, maintenance, and repairs for fountains and display pool systems, including water quality and treatment.
Installs, modifies, repairs, cleans, adjusts and maintains new and existing high-pressure piping systems and equipment.
Responsible for installation, modification, and repairs to sewage discharge systems, submersible pumping systems, irrigation systems, back-flow devices, and fire protection systems and various plumbing systems and components.
Performs maintenance to potable water drinking systems, water closets, sinks, pumps, piping and any associated plumbing fixtures and systems.
Answers worker's questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directive (eg technical orders); obtains, ceded information or decisions from supervisor on problem that common during the work.
Installs, modifies, repairs, fabricates parts, disassembles and reassembles equipment and maintains new and existing plumbing, supply and disposal systems and equipment.

Physical Efforts and Working Conditions:
Incumbent must be in good physical condition.
He or she climbs ladders and must be able to climb stair towers of greater than 100 feet.
Accessing work sites often requires walking more than three miles throughout the day and stepping over objects.
Work of this position involves pushing, pulling, or carrying of objects of varying sizes and shapes, weighing up to 75 pounds.
Incumbent works in confined areas such as attics, near ceilings, in utility corridors, etc.
He or she works from various heights on ladders, lifts, and scaffolding.
Duties are performed both inside and outside in weather conditions varying from hot, humid summer heat to below freezing winter temperatures.
He or she is exposed to serious injury when working on energized circuits, adjacent to operating equipment, or from various heights.
He/she may be exposed to burns, cuts, bruises, smoke and fumes, flying particles when grinding or cutting, and may suffer discomfort when wearing hoods, goggles, and other personal protective equipment (PPE).
The incumbent may be subject to cuts from hand powered tools and the danger from flying splinters and chips.
