Duties Help Duties Summary The position is located in the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Division, Office of Railroad, Pipeline and Hazardous materials Investigations (RPH), National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
The incumbent serves as Hazardous Materials Accident Investigator with expert knowledge of the processing, handling, disposal, storage, containment, or transportation of hazardous materials of any kind.
Learn more about this agency Responsibilities Major Duties consist of the following:
Writes outlines, factual and analytical reports, and prepares exhibits.
Leads and manages assigned investigative hazardous materials and emergency response groups (comprised of experts from Federal, State and local regulatory agencies, union officials, industry representatives and officials) during the on-scene phase of major accident investigations under the direction of the Investigator-In-Charge (IIC).
Collect and records factual accident data.
Interviews witnesses, takes sworn testimony when deemed necessary, issues subpoenas, collects physical evidence, and arranges for testing and/or examinations of physical evidence, machinery and/or equipment.
Conducts extensive research and analysis of applicable regulations, technical manuals and records, inspection reports, and similar sources and means.
Determines and recommends special investigative procedures and study needs that might be necessary.
Conducts and/or participates in special investigations or projects to improve environmental and emergency response issues concerning hazardous materials transportation safety.
Travel Required Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position.

Qualifications Applicant's must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal Service.
Specialized experience is defined as:
Investigating as the lead investigator or assisting the lead investigator in hazardous materials transportation accidents involving complex failure modes such as packaging, hazardous materials classification, closure and mode selection with either a state or Federal agency or as an employee or contractor for a hazardous materials shipper, transporter or packaging manufacturer or testing laboratory, while presenting the facts from the investigation in writing.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster.
