The OpportunityThis position will be part of Feeding America's effort to strengthen and protect public benefit programs and ensure families facing hunger can access these critical programs.
The position will build advocacy capacity and engagement opportunities particularly for the people we serve, as well as for network members and the public, to help advance policy and advocacy priorities.
This position will also manage legislative advocacy campaigns and support growing the number of digital advocates to help advance a policy agenda that increases both government food and funds for member food banks, leads to federal regulations and laws that support reducing domestic hunger, and positions Feeding America as the leading authority on hunger and hunger-related issues.
This position will focus on advocacy engagement strategies for the people impacted by food insecurity.
Salary Range:
$66,000 to $85,000
Based on Experience
Responsibilities:
Manage the development and implementation of advocacy strategies and work directly with network members to advance Feeding America's public policy and legislative agenda.
Manage the development and execution of advocacy programs that lift up the voices of the people impacted by food insecurity.
Manage gathering advocacy best practices and sharing across the network to improve and advance advocacy strategies and tactics.
Manage advocacy grants as needed while providing support in evaluation and management of member advocacy grants, specifically related to people we serve advocacy programsCollaborate with appropriate internal stakeholders enterprise-wide to ensure policy positions and initiatives are integrated into cross-programmatic strategies and projects.
Act as a liaison for Feeding America's Government Relations department during on internal and external conference advocacy sessions and cross-enterprise task forces as needed.
Provide counsel to VP of Advocacy and Director of Advocacy & External Affairs on advocacy organizing and people we serve advocacy engagement strategies and learnings to help improve the program.
Travel:
a few trips annually.

Required Technical Competencies, Experience & CertificationsFive plus years' experience in issue advocacy, grassroots mobilization, external affairs, issue campaigns or nonprofit work in a related capacity required.
Demonstrated experience developing advocacy programs for impacted communities is key in this role.
Candidates who currently or have experience as participants of federal benefit programs is required.
This position will require candidates to be adept at engaging and mobilizing people who have or are currently experiencing poverty.
Candidates with lived experience of food insecurity is therefore strongly preferred.
Experience with CRMs (particularly EveryAction, Salesforce, Quorum), using social media platforms for advocacy engagement preferred.
Education in communications, government affairs, marketing, political science, public policy, sociology or social work preferred.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
