ABOUT THE POSITION The Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for developing and executing electrical systems with minimal oversight from senior staff.
The Electrical Design Engineer is also responsible for training and reviewing the work of junior-level designers on electrical systems and general design processes.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES & SKILLS Lead the design process and approach for small-medium sized projects Manage client relationships Responsible for review of project cost estimates and project budgets Delegate design and production tasks to junior staff, as required Oversee the execution of and/or perform the following with technical proficiency:
Cable calculations Lighting calculations Electrical systems and/or Photovoltaic (PV) design layout and final design Prescriptive requirements of electrical building services engineering codes Panel schedules and equipment schedules Responsible for coordination of:
Electrical and mechanical requirements with other disciplines involved in the project design team (ie Architects, Structural Consultants, Code Consultants, Geotechnical Consultants, etc.
).
Service requirements/connections with the respective utility and/or municipal agencies Provide training and review the work of junior staff Ensure successful completion of construction administration tasks Write various reports Perform site visits with junior level design staff for documentation of existing systems and conditions Perform site visits with junior level design staff for review of system installation compliance with construction documents Manage BIM/Revit drafting and design operations Maintain BIM/Revit and design files Ensure Integral design checklist is being followed Ensure Integral BIM/Revit Standards are being followed Able to read Architectural, Structural, Electrical drawings with minimal supervision Able to apply prescriptive requirements of electrical building services engineering codes with minimal supervision QUALIFICATIONS Minimum 7 years design experience in LV, HV, control and lighting systems Professional Engineer (PE) or EIT designations are required Healthcare or Government experience is highly preferred BIM/Revit experience is an asset LEED AP certification is an asset BS Architectural Engineering, BS Electrical Engineering degree required; or equivalent combination of relevant coursework and minimum 10
