Plan, organize, and direct the activities of the Risk Assessment Branch 1 (RAB) that produces human health risk assessments and characterizes the overall risk to humans associated with the use of pesticides; Exercise supervisory personnel management responsibilities; Provide scientific policy guidance to management officials in the Office of Pesticide Programs (OPP) and the Health Effects Division (HED) on the pesticide risk assessment process and prepare and submit special reports and position papers.

This development program is designed to enhance leadership skills and abilities and meet the Agency's goal of providing new leaders with the skills and tools you need to be successful.
You will be required to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
Qualifications In addition to the educational requirements, we are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:
To qualify for the GS-15 level, you need to have at least one year of full time experience equivalent to the GS-14 level defined as planning, organizing and directing a multidisciplinary team that evaluates and/or validates effects that pesticides have on humans and/or animals; OR designing, directing, implementing and reporting on a scientific program that evaluates and/or validates effects that pesticides have on humans and/or animals.
Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas:
1) Ability to provide technical advice related to pesticide risk assessment/characterizations; 2) Skill in developing partnerships with professionals outside of your organization to assess scientific information; 3) Ability to set priorities for staff within an organization; 4) Skill in oral communication sufficient to counsel employees on both work and administrative matters; 5) Skill in written communication sufficient to develop environmental position papers; and 6) Ability to develop technical guidance for pesticide risk assessments.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (eg, Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (eg, professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).
Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education You need a degree or combination of education and experience as described below to qualify for this position.
Biologist:
You must have a bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in one of the following:
biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position; OR a combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major, as listed.
Toxicologist:
You must have a bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in toxicology, or an appropriate discipline of the biological, medical, or veterinary sciences that included at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, biochemistry, or physiology, and 12 semester hours in toxicology.
Physical Scientist:
You must have a bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in one of the following:
physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics; OR a combination of education and experience with education equivalent to one of the majors listed that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Chemist:
You must have a bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in one of the following:
physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics; OR a combination of education and experience with education equivalent to one of the majors listed that included the described coursework.
