This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within US Customs and Border Protection, US Border Patrol Headquarters, Mission Readiness Operations Directorate, Recruitment and Training Division, located in Washington, District of Columbia.
Law enforcement positions are expected to report to their duty station on a daily basis.
However, due to COVID-19, some positions in CBP are currently in an expanded telework posture.
If selected, and you are given on an entrance on duty date you will be provided additional information on the reporting requirements of your position.
This position will allow you to use your expertise to prevent illegal entry of noncitizens into the United States by land, water, or air; enforce criminal provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Laws; and seek out and apprehend smugglers or noncitizens who are in the United States illegally.

This position starts at a salary of $122,530.
00 (GS-14, Step 1) to $159,286.
00 (GS-14, Step 10) with promotion potential to $159,286.

You will serve as a secondary law enforcement officer (under 5 USC 8336 (c) and 8412 (d)).
Your duties will include:
Providing senior staff advisory services concerning USBP's strategic, operational and tactical plans, policies and procedures and leading the assessment, development, and coordination of strategic Use of Force training, defensive tactics and employee fitness to support mission readiness Serving as a liaison with other DHS components and CBP program offices in the building of coalitions and focusing on improving mission readiness as it relates to the training and resource allocation of agents in the field Conducting visits to sectors, stations and sub-stations for the purpose of reviewing operations and training programs to ensure compliance with DHS, CBP and USBP policies focusing on the Use of Force policy, training, and Less Lethal Device deployment and operation Serving as a contracting officer technical representative on one or more national programs including, but not limited to Firearms, Body Armor, Ammunition and Less Lethal Device procurement Interpreting policy, revising policy and formulating new policies and procedures for USBP programs based on proposed new legislation, adapting guidance specific to organizational and project needs and may develop guidance and procedures to support training initiatives focused on Use of Force polices for use by the sectors Travel Required 25% or less - You may be expected to travel for this position.

Qualifications Basic Qualification Requirements:
The basic qualification requirements include experience in law enforcement or other responsible work that demonstrates the ability to make arrests and exercise sound judgment in the use of firearms; to deal effectively with individuals or persons in a courteous, tactful manner; and to analyze information rapidly and make prompt decisions.
AND You qualify for the GS-14 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
Providing technical and administrative direction and oversight for all Border Patrol related functions within an assigned area Supervising, managing or directing operational programs and their appropriate support functions Directing local policy and program initiatives Developing, managing or directing operational policy or programs related to Border Patrol operations Language Requirement:
Must be proficient in the Spanish language.
(ie, able to speak and read in Spanish).
Firearms Requirement:
You will be required to carry a firearm while on duty.
Anyone who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence cannot lawfully possess a firearm or ammunition (Title 18, USC Section 922 (g) (9)).
You will be required to certify whether they have ever been convicted of such an offense.
Physical and Medical Requirements:
Because the duties of the position are of a strenuous nature and require a high degree of interaction and responsibility to the public, you may be required to undergo and successfully pass our medical screening process.

Polygraph Examination:
This is a polygraph-required position.
If you are not a current CBP employee in a law enforcement position, you may be required to take a polygraph exam and have favorable results in order to continue in the pre-employment process.

Polygraph Reciprocity:
CBP may accept the results of a prior federal polygraph exam in lieu of a CBP polygraph exam.

Residency:
There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by CBP.
Individuals are required to have physically resided in the United States or its protectorates (as declared under international law) for at least three of the last five years.
If you do not meet the residency requirement and you have been physically located in a foreign location for more than two of the last five years, you may request an exception to determine if you are eligible for a residency waiver by meeting one or more of the following conditions:

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
