The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a key advisor, Senior Director, Privacy Oversight to the Chief Privacy Officer/Freedom of Information Act Officer, Deputy Chief Privacy Officer, and other Department of Homeland (DHS) officials on privacy oversight matters, in which you will conduct robust oversight for the Department's implementation of privacy protection in all DHS activities. The work of this position will require you to lead a multi-faceted approach to privacy oversight that includes: conducting Privacy Compliance Reviews of privacy-sensitive DHS systems, programs, and initiatives; managing the Department's privacy incident response process; addressing privacy complaints; and conducting privacy investigations.
This position is located in the Office of the Secretary and Executive Management, Privacy Office (PRIV), Department of Homeland Security (DHS); Washington, D.C.

Major Duties include, but are not limited to:
Serving as a technical and subject matter expert on a wide variety of privacy management functions in order to give authoritative advice and guidance to the Chief Privacy Officer, Deputy Chief Privacy Officer, and other Senior DHS Officials regarding the privacy implications of DHS programs and policies, including on extremely involved, unique, controversial, and often highly-sensitive privacy issues and matters regarding privacy oversight at the Department.
Represent the Chief Privacy Officer and Deputy Chief Privacy Officer at high-level meetings and ascertain issues and concerns of stakeholders to build support for privacy oversight policy proposals.
Give presentations and recommendations on legislation as well as the evaluation of the content and intent of new legislation for the projected impact on DHS's privacy oversight programs.
Coordinate DHS efforts to ensure that privacy complaints are processed efficiently, redress is provided as appropriate, and efficiencies in processing are remedied.
Supervise, plan, direct, coordinate, lead, counsel, and evaluate subordinate staff performance.
Your resume must demonstrate meeting the following specialized experience description in its entirety: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the federal Government (can be obtained in the public or private sector); conducting ALL of the following: 1) providing guidance and support on the direct oversight of how a Department or agency oversees and complies with Federal privacy law, privacy policy, and standards, including the Privacy Act of 1974, the E-Government Act of 2002, the Federal Information Security and Management Act, and applicable NIST standards; 2) assessing previous privacy impact assessments or privacy compliance reviews of an agency's systems, programs, and initiatives; 3) conducting investigations of alleged non-compliance with privacy policies and requirements; 4) managing an agency's privacy incident response process; and 5) addressing privacy complaints orally and in writing.
