United States Citizens or individuals lawfully admitted for permanent residency or authorized by Immigration and Naturalization Service to work in the U.S. Full-Time Permanent This position is located in the District of Columbia (DC) Courts, Human Resources Division, Benefits Branch. The Benefits Assistant provides information and assistance in the processing of various benefits programs offered at the DC Courts. A background and/or security investigation is required. Probationary period of one (1) year. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: The Human Resources Assistant provides service and support related to the administration of various employee benefit programs and services such as Federal Employees' Health Program (FEHB), Federal Employees' Group Life Insurance Program (FEGLI), Federal Long Term Care Insurance program (FLTCIP), Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA), Commuter Option Program (COP), and Thrift Savings Plan (TSP). Other duties include:
Preparing for and conducting new employee orientation
Processing and assisting employees with completing benefits related forms
Monitoring and maintaining the Commuter Option Program (COP)
Distributing transportation vouchers, auditing and reconciling COP participation reports.
Monitoring supplies for all benefits related programs, events and service
Checking appointment and terminated personnel actions for appropriateness and adequacy of terms/codes and inclusion of supporting documents to ensure the timely and accurate processing of personnel actions.
Utilizing automated personnel/payroll related processing system to code or input data
Generating and distributing a variety of personnel and payroll reports.
Assisting employees by providing general information related to benefits and other human Resources program and services.
Performing receptionist duties as scheduled.

Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the above requirements if you can show that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States. The highly qualified candidates will be referred to the hiring manager for further consideration and possible interview. Further screening may be required of the highest qualified candidates. All applicants will be notified of the outcome. In addition to the federal health plans, the DC Courts offer employees supplemental vision and dental plans as well as commuter transit benefit subsidy, for a maximum of $120 a month. There are 26 pay periods in the year. This job is being filled by an alternative hiring process and is not in the competitive civil service.
Please note there is a mandatory one year probationary period for all non-judicial new employees.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
