Attorney-Advisor (General) - Political Risk Insurance Attorney

This position is in the Office of General Counsel of United States International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), the US Government's development finance bank.
NOTE:
The duty location may be negotiable upon selection.
DFC's political risk insurance program covers equity, debt, and other forms of investment in emerging markets against three categories of political risk:
1) expropriation, which includes traditional confiscation, arbitral award default, and denial of justice; 2) currency inconvertibility and transfer; and 3) political violence.
Insured projects are always located in a low-income, lower middle-income, or upper middle-income country.
As a Political Risk Insurance Attorney, the incumbent may be required to support other business lines within the agency.
The successful candidate will serve as an Assistant General Counsel and advise on all of the legal and policy aspects of DFC's political risk insurance program.
Work includeslegal due diligence and reviewing, drafting and/or negotiating all transaction documents leading to closing, as well as monitoring, political risk insurance contracts;developing and/or updating insurance contract templates;advising on issues of international law, international arbitration, and salvage and recovery in respect of DFC's expropriation coverage program;assisting the insurance team in developing new product offerings consistent with the BUILD Act (22 USC A' A' 9601 et seq);coordinating advocacy efforts with the insurance team to avoid claims, including engagement with relevant US government and foreign government officials;analyzing insurance claims and preparing written memoranda of determinations; andleading salvage and recovery efforts.
Conditions of Employment:

Basic Requirements:
Applicants must (1) be a graduate of an accredited law school with an LL.
B.
or JD; (2) be a current member of a bar with a valid license to practice law in a state, territory of the United States, District of Columbia, or Commonwealth of Puerto Rico; and (3) meet all specialized experience requirements as described below.

Specialized
Experience:
Applicant must possess at least 5 years of experience advising on legal and policy matters in the areas of international political/sovereign/sub sovereign risk, international law on expropriation, investment treaties, and/or international arbitration in the context of negotiating and documenting transactions for projects in emerging markets, whether directly or through the supervision of outside counsel.
Familiarity with the principles of commercial insurance is relevant but not required.
