7K - $68K a year Access Services facilitates physical and electronic access to research materials and information resources and coordinates borrowing and lending services through circulation, interlibrary loan, document delivery, consortium loan, electronic and print reserves, stacks management and related programs.
Access Services provides for and supports the electronic services, publications, and training activities of the libraries, and, with Research & Instructional Services, serves the user community as a part of Public Services.
The Access Services Technician has two primary
Responsibilities:
Manage access to the physical collection in the main stacks; recommend for hire, train, schedule and closely supervise part-time staff; collect statistical data on stacks activities.
On a rotation with other Access Services staff, open and close Mullen Library and oversee staff and services at both the Welcome Desk and the Circulation Desk.
Works a flexible schedule seven (7) days a week.
Responsibilities:
Maintain the order of the collection in the Stacks and through the daily and timely return of all items to the shelves, shelving according to the Library of Congress classification system and shelf reading.
Maintain the physical condition of the collection by appropriate handling of items when shelving and proper placement on the shelves.
Ensure easy access to the collection by updating range labels, signs, the stacks directory and other navigational aids.
Monitor the collection for areas of rapid growth and reduced space and for proper lighting, functional shelving and a clean environment.
With Head of Access Services, plans for the relocation of collections as necessary and implement stacks shifts.
Train and supervise student workers for the Stacks.
Ensure that training is successful and that policies and procedures are followed by all stacks workers.
Collect stacks related statistical data and incorporate them into monthly and annual written reports of Access Services activities.
Open and/or close the library on a rotation with other department staff.
Assist colleagues with other Access Services deliverables including circulation, resource sharing and Consortium Loan Services.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree.
One (1) year of library or customer services experience.
Knowledge of library functions and organization.
Knowledge of Library of Congress classification system.
Skilled in using common computer applications (word processing software, spreadsheets, etc.
).
Proficiency in the use of a library management system desirable.
Strong supervision skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, students, staff and the public.
Strong customer service attitude.
Ability to collaborate with and motivate staff.
Ability to search online library catalog for bibliographic information.
Attention to detail.
Ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure.
Ability to plan, organize, and manage.
Availability to accommodate flexible scheduling seven (7) days a week.
