Principal Firmware Engineer

Microsoft Silicon and Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is the team behind Microsoft's expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft's Intelligent Cloud mission.
SCHIE delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Skype, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform globally with its server and data center infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability solutions.

The Firmware Center of Excellence is responsible for Hardware/Firmware for Azure Infrastructure.
We are working on the next generation Hardware/Firmware for server, silicon, and rack infrastructure with a focus on innovation in firmware technology to secure Azure infrastructure for Microsoft and their customers.
We are looking for a Principal Firmware Engineer with a background in Firmware development in embedded systems.

Required
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or electrical engineering, or related technical discipline AND 6
years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C+
or Rust and PythonOR equivalent experience.
4
years of experience architecting or implementing industry-standard security protocols, including secure communications, cryptographic algorithms, public key infrastructure, key management technologies.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.

Microsoft Cloud Background Check:
This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Qualifications:
Experience with working from early concept of Platform Architecture & design.
Prior experience of working in one or more of the following areas:
Any kind of hardware accelerator software design and development.
Secure boot, platform security protocols, secure firmware updates, attestation, secure recovery, and secure debug workflows.
Security primitives, security ciphers, threat vectors, security mitigation strategies to close identified vulnerabilities.
Central Processing Units(CPU) Execution modes, security model, cache, coherency, Memory management and protection, interrupt controller, virtualization, and other related concepts development in virtualized environment.
Platform initialization, board support package (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface(UEFI)/U-Boot/ATF) Development & integration, low level drivers for peripherals such as I2C, I3C, eMMC, SPI, Universal Serial Bus(USB), universal asynchronous receiver-transmitter(UARTs) etc, Driver development for Reliability, Availability, serviceability (RAS), Debug, Logging.
Real Time (RT)Operating System Scheduling and firmware development in multithreading symmetric multiprocessor systems(SMP) as well as in heterogeneous computing environment Vulnerability assessment in the Firmware.
Development of System Threat models for the Platform.
Good understanding of computer architectures including processors, buses, and memories.
Demonstrated experience of leading big initiatives spanning multiple teams and organizations and leveraging deep domain experience to influence product roadmap.
Experience working with cross-functional teams on Root cause analysis, troubleshooting, and debugging skills resulting into solving complex Hardware/Firmware interface issues.
Experience with hardware security modules (HSMs), secure boot, secure firmware updates, Attestation, Secure recovery and secure debug workflows at scale.
Working experience with architecting or implementing industry-standard security protocols, (Security Protocol and Data Model (SPDM), TEE Device Interface Security Protocol (TDISP) ) including secure communications), cryptographic algorithms, Public key infrastructure, key management technologies.
Effective problem-solving and analytical skills.
Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and work independently.
Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.
S.
is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year.
There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.

You will contribute to the architecture and design of various firmware components, including driver interfaces (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express(PCIe), serial peripheral interface(SPI), I2C, I3C), system libraries needed for System on Chip(SoC) bring-up, protocol and feature development of low-level hardware.
Work with our partner team from varied disciplines, understand subject matter problems and identify opportunities, build out consensus with the right solution.
You will mentor, guide, and help peers and other team members.
You will identify and address inefficiencies and gaps in architecture, development, execution, etc.
Be a good advocate for engineering culture among the team.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware architects and engineers, software developers, validation & integration, and product managers to define firmware requirements and specifications.
Stay up to date with industry trends and advancements in cloud firmware technologies and provide recommendations for improvement.
Work closely with Microsoft product groups, industry partners and researchers to architect and develop server hardware solutions that meet the requirements for our cloud services platforms at the lowest possible cost of ownership (TCO).

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
