Program Summary:

The SBY Community Approaches to Rapid Engagement Services or CARES, is a new SBY program that will work collaboratively with MPD, OAG, and DHS to support family units experiencing intra-family violence and where families desire additional support with coping and problem-solving skills. The CARES Team will offer crisis response services when families need it most and will aid families through a stabilization process, including a cool off period if necessary.

Summary:

The Crisis Response Specialist will work under the Family Strengthening Program and Bruce House Programs providing shift coverage until a call comes in to our emergency line where the specialist is needed to provide on-site crisis intervention and de-escalation. This is a full-time position. The hours are 2PM-10PM Tuesday-Saturday.
Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Answers emergency calls from MPD officers during intra-family violence incidents; arrives within one hour of notification;
  • Provides on-site crisis intervention; works with MPD to de-escalate, assess and develop a plan for immediate actions to ensure safety;
  • Works with family and young person to develop a Crisis Intervention Plan for the evening and arrange for respite if needed; identifies alternative arrangements after intervention for youth unable to remain at home including transportation;
  • Provides information on relevant coping skills on-site;
  • Work closely with MPD officers, staff at Bruce House and staff at the Family Strengthening Program to ensure youth are receiving appropriate services after initial incident; works collaboratively with families, and collateral agencies to help youth develop or follow-through on individual service plan goals;
  • Provide on-site supervision and counseling services to youth in residence; including applying positive behavior modification techniques, modeling effective de-escalation and problem-solving skills;
  • Engage with youth in a variety of activities, supporting clients in achieving daily goals and engaging them in productive dialogue, building life skills, and problem solving; additionally, help plan for, direct, and/or provide support for recreational, educational, and therapeutic activities;
  • Answer and record all phone calls and visitors, maintain supervision of the house, enforce house rules and ensure house safety; Oversee the safety and cleanliness of the program; at times, perform light janitorial duties, such as sweep, mop, and take out trash. Advise Program Director of building maintenance needs;
  • Make regular house check inspections inside the building and in the area immediately outside, and check individual rooms routinely;
  • Maintain necessary records, including but not limited to, legible, comprehensive and accurate reports of house activities in the house log, daily point logs, etc.; all documentation must be submitted within 24-48 hours;
  • Carry out emergency fire evacuation and emergency procedures in case of an illness or accident;
  • Participate in required annual training required by licensing agency or by Program Director or Clinical Director.;
  • Participate in regular supervision and staff meetings as assigned by Program Director;
  • Keep all required clearances up to date;
  • Other duties as assigned and,

Qualifications:

Preferred:
Bachelor's Degree in a relevant degree such as Social Work, Psychology or Human Services; Required:
High School Diploma or GED with 3 to 4 years' relevant experience in Human Services or related field (preferably working with adolescents/young adults);
  • Strong communication and organizational skills required; and,
  • All candidates must possess a valid driver's license and have reliable transportation; pass the required clearances; and provide any additional information regarding previous records, if necessary.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
